Macau's Casinos Took MOP 21,680m in October, 10.0% Less Than a Year Earlier
In short: Casinos in Macau, the only part of China where they are legal, kept MOP 21,680m from gamblers in October 2026. That is 10.0% less than a year earlier, the fifth monthly fall in a row and the deepest since June. The month it is measured against, October 2025, was the biggest of that whole year. Ten months in, the year's total is still higher than in 2025, but only by 1.6%.

October against October

Gross gaming revenue is the money casinos keep from bets once winnings have been paid. Macau's came to MOP 21,680m in October 2026, down from MOP 24,086m in October 2025, a fall of 10.0%.[1] The figures are in millions of Macau patacas (MOP), and the table gives the rate as 1.03 patacas to one Hong Kong dollar.[1]

Casinos are legal nowhere else in China.[2] The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), which publishes the table, is the main government body that oversees Macau's casino industry.[2]

Five months below 2025

From June onwards, every month has brought in less than the same month of 2025. The falls were 12.1% in June, 8.4% in July, 1.2% in both August and September, and 10.0% in October.[1] The first chart puts all ten months of 2026 on one scale.

When the September figures came out, the gap had stayed at 1.2% for two months running. October widened it again, to 10.0%.

Set against the best month of 2025

In October 2025 Macau took MOP 24,086m. No other month of 2025 reached that, and it was 15.9% up on October 2024.[3]

Counted in money rather than percentages, October 2026 was a better month than September. Revenue rose from MOP 18,063m to MOP 21,680m. A year earlier the same two months went from MOP 18,289m to MOP 24,086m, a much larger jump.[1]

Not in the table

The bureau's table carries the monthly total and the running total for two years, and the change between them. It does not separate ordinary play from VIP rooms, where high-stakes gamblers bet. It has no figures by casino company and no visitor numbers. So it cannot tell a reader why October fell.[1]

Ten months in

From January to October, Macau took MOP 208,796m, against MOP 205,427m in the same ten months of 2025. That leaves the year up 1.6%.[1]

Each month after March has trimmed that lead. After January it stood at 24.0%, after June at 6.8%, after September at 3.2%, and after October at 1.6%.[1]
